Toyota Prius

Toyota will stage the world premiere of the Toyota Prius at a press conference in Detroit at the 2011 North American International Auto Show.

In addition to the current third-generation Prius and Prius PHV, the first all-new addition to the Prius family will debut along with a Prius concept car.

The press conference will be held on January 10 in the Riverview Ballroom at Cobo Center.

We said yesterday that European countries will have to wait until March 2011 for their first Nissan Leaf. Well.. we were wrong! Portuguese consortium MOBI.E received nine electric vehicles from Nissan this week, but the deliveries to European customers will start in the first quarter of 2011 as we said yesterday.

The consortium becomes the first commercial customer in Europe to take delivery of the Leaf electric car.

Chevrolet Sail electric vehicle

General Motors showed its Sail electric vehicle concept at the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show. The electric Sail, based on the gasoline-fueled Chevrolet New Sail that hit the Chinese market in January 2010, is developed by Shanghai General Motors and the Pan Asia Automotive Center and is targeted at ordinary Chinese families.

The electric Sail‘s specs look to be rather average for the battery-powered segment. The car’s lithium-ion battery pack provides juice to a 65 kW (87 hp) electric motor that cranks out around 162 pound-feet of torque. The Sail soars to a top speed of 91 mph and rambles on for 93 miles on a full charge. Nissan has delivered its first Leaf electric car in Japan to the Kanagawa Prefectural Government.

Six of the first ten Nissan Leaf vehicles delivered will be used for official prefecture use and four of them will serve as publicly available rental cars to be used in the region’s ‘EV Sharing Model Business’.

The Leaf electric car is set to soon start deliveries in the US, but European countries will have to wait until March 2011 for the first Nissan Leaf delivered.
